Kampala. Local construction companies and consultants cutting across ideological and political divide have joined forces to denounce and suggest the immediate blacklisting of a Kampala based contractor for constructing a road that has failed to develop a single pothole for 3 years in a row.
“Not even a dent has been seen on that that stupid road even after heavy trucks have been intentionally routed to that road for now a year. This is not cool at all,” complained a local contractor who has been waiting to place in a quotation for repairing and re-constructing the same road to no avail.
Directors of Honest Contractors Limited, the local contracting firm that built the road have reportedly received death threats after coming under scathing critism from fellow contractors who are currently doing all they can so that the company is not awarded another tender that may see similar roads in Kampala city.
“Look, we forgave them when no single pothole appeared after 4 months. Alarms were set off after a year when the road showed no signs of relenting, no signs of cracks or whatever, but this is it, we are fed up. It is now 3 years and our patience has waned, enough is enough. This is not the Kampala we know,” a local contractor in Rubaga division told UCN.
Unreliable sources have it that Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) gets trillions of shillings as annual budget for building and maintaining the road infrastructure, but corrupt contractors denies it the opportunity to build and repair the city’s trademark potholes roads.
“Non of the roads other dishonest contractors built are featured in election campaign propaganda, except for that cursed road built by those bastards” the Chairman of Uganda Local Contractor’s Association explained the inconvenience caused by the reckless act of the contractor who is set to be blacklisted from future road construction projects around Uganda Kampala city.
